Enamel on copper. Handmade sterling silver necklace.
I made this pendant out of copper sheet which I hand cut and enameled with a process in which glass (vitreous) enamel is permanently fused into the copper. I made the designs by sifting the powdered glass using plants and weeds gathered from my garden and field as stencils. I then fired the powdered enamel with my torch several times to achieve this effect. I also counter enameled each piece, meaning that the backside has a layer of enamel as well.
Each of the three pieces in this necklace measures about 3" by 1"
The total length of the necklace is 19".
I use Thomson's lead free enamels for my jewelry pieces. For this necklace I used seaweed green and the natural reddish copper oxidation under clear enamel for the beautiful contrasting colors.
